I'm a nautical antique buff trying to get info on a commerative plate honoring the captain and crew of the CHEROKEE-ALBERTA. My guess is that these are two separate vessels. Was it a wreck? The captain was Casto. Other crew members were Holinquist, Shute, I.Johnston, Nelson, Bush and Gregerson. There is a fishing schooner on the plate and below a steamer. Since this is a small crew, did the steamer collide with the fishing boat? Did anyone survive? Any help learning more about this incident would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Ron Lippincott, Marylands Easternshore.

I don't know if you ever got an answer to your question about the schooner "Alberta" and crew.  In January, 1906, Capt. Mark Casto and a volunteer crew saved the 52 passengers of the steamer "Cherokee" during a gale storm.  I am writing up their tale on my Casto website: http://www.castoconnections.com.
